YCS Named Outstanding School at 2017-18 Blackboard Awards

We are thrilled and honored to report that Yorkville Community School was awarded a Blackboard Award for Outstanding School at a gala event last night. Since 2002, the Blackboard Awards have been honoring excellence in education in New York City, celebrating schools, principals, and teachers from all education communities—public, private, parochial, and charter—and in all grade levels, nursery school through high school. Our Principal Samantha Kaplan accepted the award and spoke about the strength of our teachers, faculty, administration, students, parents and community. Congratulations YCS!

YCS Annual Read-A-Thon and Pizza Party Competition

We will be starting on:
The 2017 YCS Read-A-Thon is in full swing and will continue through November 30th. This is a great program that raises thousands of dollars for YCS and supports our students on their reading journeys.
Please be sure to setup your student’s donation page using the code that was sent him their backpacks. If you’ve lost your student’s code or would like more detailed instructions on how to set up your child’s Read-A-Thon page, please email readathon@yorkvillecommunityschool.org
Also, during the week of November 27th – November 30th, classes will be taking part in the Read-A-Thon Pizza Party Competition. In short, the class in each grade that reads the most outside of school hours in the week will win a pizza party! Reading logs for next week’s competition will be distributed on Monday

With gorgeous weather and a wonderful community spirit, this year’s Fall Festival was the best one yet! From the smiles on our children’s faces, to the collegiality of the YCS families, alumni, teachers, staff, and community and business partners, it is clear that YCS has built something impressive and special that continues to grow each year.

Many thanks again to everyone who made this year’s Fall Festival possible, including the event chairs, Victoria Brannigan & and Kate Hrobsky, and the Craft and Game chairs, Kaena Clark & and Allison Gutstein, as well as our underwriters, community partners and sponsors, and the many YCS family volunteers.

Please CLICK HERE to take a virtual tour through the amazing Urban Maze, created by cardboard panels created by students of each class and many other groups.

And of course, a special thanks to Mr. Jonathan for providing the most memorable entertainment of the day!

YCS Fall Festival: October 28th

Yorkville’s most popular block party, the YCS Fall Festival, will happen on October 28th from 11 AM – 3 PM, on East 88th Street between 1st and York (right in front of YCS). Activities include inflatables, carnival games, arts & crafts and a student designed life-sized maze! There will be grilled burgers, hot dogs, popcorn, cotton candy and lots of other sweet treats. All proceeds benefit the YCS PTA, and support enrichment and other important programs for YCS students. It takes a village to make this event a success, so please consider volunteering. If you would like to help out, please visit our SignUp Genius and sign-up to volunteer or email our event chair Victoria Brannigan.  Families interested in underwriting specific aspects of the Fall Festival can download, complete and send our YCS FALL FESTIVAL 2017 Underwriting form and submit it with payment in you child’s backpack.
